Let designers see data models

My designer and data-designer users want to see data models shared with them. Currently, Sisense only shows you data models that you have edit permission on.

The reason is that they want to see the relationships, tables, and fields. They want to do that to understand how they should use the data, fix issues in their dashboards, and confirm bugs in the data models. The visual data model page does that better than reading through a list of dimensions.

  • Hey Tim

I know your request is for this information to be available natively within Sisense. But, I wanted to offer up a solution that is available now to address your specific use case 😃

Earlier this year, we released a plugin called the Asset Auditor. This plugin takes an inventory of all your data assets, displaying the information across a set of dashboards that allow you to better understand their use and utilization.

The Asset Auditor is built on Sisense native charts and features, which means that you can easily democratize and share this information using the native sharing options. For example, you could share these dashboards with your Data Desginers and Dashboard Designers and give them full visibility to the underlying models, tables, columns, etc. It's like View-only access...but on steroids!

The Asset Auditor isn't just going to give you a list of dimensions; it's going to give your designers insight and direction on what needs to be done with the data

And it doesn't just stop at the data models! We also display which dashboards are throwing errors, and help narrow down the root cause. We also give you visibility into access and sharing of dashboards/models, also, widgets and plugins.

The Asset Auditor ships to you with a pre-built elasticube and pre-built dashboards to import directly into your environment. This doesn't require any code (like in that Community post you referenced), and if needed, you can apply data security on certain data if it needs to be inaccessible.

All dashboards are built on Sisense native charts and features, making it easy for you to use or customize what's provided, or to build out your own additional charts and dashboards using our documented data model.

The Asset Auditor does much more than just this, but feel free to check out the blog post, our documentation, or reach out if you want some more information.

    Thanks!
