More intuitive Pivot-table drilldown

Hi all,

We've had feedback from customers that the right-click to drilldown behaviour on pivot-tables is not intuitive, especially for non-superuser staff.

Our ideal behaviour to make it clearer would be:

  • Row label is blue (and clearly clickable).
  • On clicking a blue row label, it automatically drills down one level (as per currently triggered behavior on right click)

Drilled down would be in blue/underline, so can continue to drill further. Drill reset would be as current behaviour. Right click behaviour could be as-is currently.

Has anyone got an improvement for pivot-tables around this, or anything similar?

Thanks!

Philip

  • Hey filski

That feedback is spot on and we heard from a few directions, one thing you can do to achieve a very similar behaviour is implement the powerful Jump-to-Dashboard plugin from Sisense (I believe they're currently working on adding it as a native feature which will not require an add-on). It's a must-have in any Sisense instance, se e a few links below:

    https://www.sisense.com/marketplace/add-on/jump-to-dashboard/

    https://docs.sisense.com/main/SisenseLinux/jump-to-dashboard.htm

Another option to achieve your exact requirement is with the QBeeQ Super Table

This is the ultimate table widget available today with Sisense and is packed with a plethora of very powerful features, specifically, it allows you to apply Jump-to-Dashboard from any cell or row value, and format it as a link just like your image above.

In it's 'Expandable' nature, it allows for users to drill on demand per row value and not for an entire dimension, by using an intuitive tree-like view (very similar to an xls pivot).

It';s perfect for any type of financial reporting, Balance sheets, P&L, or any other financial table.

You can also further improve the design by adding links, icons, sparklines, images and more.

You can also empower your viewers and designers alike with extremely valuable pivot features like transpose, dimension & measure switching, advanced sorting and so much more such as:

    • Completely customizable design and formatting

    • Sorting by the entire dataset
    • Export to PDF — including all rows and columns
    • Transpose and pivot functionality
    • Self-service mode for viewers to reconstruct the pivot itself, basically empowering them to run their own ad-hoc reporting!

If you have any other questions don't hesitate to reach out, you can give this plugin, or any other plugin of ours, a free 14 day trial.

    We're always here to help

  • Hi filski ,

Great point — this kind of intuitive drill-down interaction is a common request.

As mentioned above, Jump-to-Dashboard is one native option in Sisense that can help achieve part of what you're looking for.

For a more advanced and seamless experience, I’d highly recommend exploring the available solutions on the Sisense Marketplace. Although some may have similar names, they can differ quite a bit in capabilities — so a comparison is definitely worth it.

One solution that could be a perfect fit is Paldi Solutions’ Expandable Pivot.
The behavior you described — clicking to drill down and highlighting the path — is actually one of its core features.

Here’s a quick example of how it works:

In addition to that, the Expandable Pivot offers a rich set of features:

    • Built with web sockets for fast data retrieval and fast refresh

    • Sorting across the entire dataset

    • Fully customizable design and formatting

    • Export to PDFincluding all rows and columns
    • Simple yet powerful API for tailored customizations

    • Transpose and pivot flexibility

    • Self-service mode for viewers to restructure data

    • Save and share pivot configurations

And that’s just a partial list — we’re constantly improving it with feedback from users like you!

If you're interested in giving it a try or have specific use cases to discuss, feel free to reach out at

      Hey Wantti

Sorry that is the experience you had, we try our best at QBeeQ to provide alternative and free solutions before proposing our premium plugins.

I began my comment above with the JTD plugin, see below, LMK if you would like any support or guidance on setting that up,
