Hi Mark,
The reason you see Items and Background in the widget layout is because you selected the Date Widget,
If you click on the Chart Widget you will see the Axis, Series etc.
The reason the data layout is different is that each widget need different data structure in order to work.
In our example the date widget needs a date dimension in the items and zero or more dimensions in the background
panel that will be the scope of that widget.
